Surf Photography Prints
The aerial pictures of Australia’s surf breaks, from drone height by Nicolas Letoublon in Bronte, Bondi, Maroubra, The Pass or Wategos in Byron Bay. Each photo is shot from 60 metres above the break, where the wave dominates and the surfer almost get lost in the blues. Barrels, closeouts, open ocean sets, seen from an angle the beach never offers you.

Surf photography from Sydney to Byron Bay
The surf breaks in this collection cover the beachfront in New South Wales, Australia. From Bronte, Bondi and Maroubra in Sydney's eastern suburbs, with short break and powerful waves. From Byron bay, with The Pass and Wategos in Byron Bay that brings long walls and the calm of the north coast. Every location is a different place from above, and the collection shows that difference. Some images are colour, some black and white. Some is abstract enough to be read as pure form. Others, however, are clearly a moment in the water.
Surf wall art shot from above, not from the water
Most surf photography is found in water or sand. The subject is the surfer. This piece looks at it from above where the surfer becomes the little detail in a big picture and the wave is the main event. The result reads differently on a wall. Less sports photography, more landscape. The ocean’s scale is more clear from this height, and a big aerial surf print reads as much as a piece of art before it reads as a photograph of the surf. This is why it works in rooms which could never ever hang a typical surf print.
Frequently asked questions
-
What makes aerial surf photography different from standard surf prints?
Surf photography can be shot in the water or on the beach, where the subject is the surfer. These images are taken from above, where the wave becomes the composition and the surfer is a small element in a much larger frame. It reads as landscape before it reads as sport, which is why it works in rooms that would never hang a conventional surf photo.
-
What surf breaks are included in this collection?
The collection covers surf breaks mostly along the NSW coast and Byron Bay. From Sydney's eastern suburbs: Bronte, Tamarama, Maroubra, Coogee and Bondi. From Byron Bay: The Pass and Wategos. Each location has its own character from above and the collection reflects that range.
-
What size works best for a surf photography print on a large wall?
The aerial perspective holds detail at scale. At 90x120cm or larger, the wave has the space it needs to read properly. Smaller sizes work well in groups. If you have one large wall and one print to put on it, go bigger than you think you need.
