I shot this image at Wategos at the end of summer, on a morning when the swell was clean and the surfers were working the long right-hander off the point. From above, the foam lines from previous waves are still sitting on the surface of the water, and you can track exactly where each set has been. The surfer in the middle of the frame is mid-turn, but from this height, the movement is almost still.
Wategos is one of those surf breaks that has a particular quality of light in the early morning. The headland creates a shadow line that moves across the break as the sun comes up, and there is a window of about thirty minutes where the contrast between the lit water and the shadow is at its sharpest. This was taken in that window.
Back to Wategos is part of the Byron Bay collection, available in black and white and colour. Printed on Canson Infinity archival paper in four sizes: A3, A2, A1 and A0. Ships worldwide from Sydney.
Paper and Prints quality
Paper and Prints quality
All prints are produced on Canson Infinity archival paper with pigment inks rated for over 100 years under standard display conditions. Two paper options:
Photo Lustre Premium RC Semi-Gloss for colour work, which gives the image depth and a surface sheen that holds detail in both highlights and shadows.
Rag Photographique 310gsm Matte for black and white, where the flat surface and long tonal range let the contrast do the work it needs to do.
These are not the papers used in commercial print shops. They are the same papers used in museum and gallery collections. The difference is visible in the print.
Available sizes
Available sizes
Four sizes: A3 (30×42cm), A2 (42×60cm), A1 (60×84cm), and A0 (84×120cm).
A3 works well grouped with other prints or in a smaller space. A2 holds its own on a mid-sized wall. A1 is the size most buyers choose for a feature wall. A0 is 84 by 120 centimetres and needs a wall that can take it, but the aerial detail at that scale is something a smaller print cannot replicate.
If you are unsure which size fits your space, a useful reference: measure the wall section you have in mind, then lay a piece of paper or a sheet to the approximate dimensions on the floor. It is a reliable way to judge scale before committing.
